Marshmallow Infused Vodka
Love the flavors of marshmallow as a part of your drinks? This homemade Marshmallow Vodka is an easy infused alcohol to make at home and tastes like those classic marshmallows we all know and love. All you need are two ingredients and a little time.

2025 Update: This recipe was originally a part of my S’mores Martini post, which was shared in August 2017. I decided to make this recipe a standalone one since it’s delicious and have included new photos, more tips and tricks. I hope you love this festive!
Infused alcohols and I go way back. (Looking at you, Peppermint Vodka and Toasted Pecan Whiskey.)
This marshmallow vodka was inspired by s’mores, which are a summertime favorite treat.
I really, really wanted to make a marshmallow-infused vodka with real marshmallows in the summer of 2017, so here we are.
But my marshmallow-infused vodka took a few iterations before I got it just right.
Why I love this recipe:
Honestly, campfire s’mores are something I love because the combination of marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers is just a delight. And that was the inspiration for this whole recipe in the first place.
But getting the homemade marshmallow vodka to play right really was tricky for me.
Some things I learned along the way include:
- Giant marshmallows are not good for this recipe. I used them in the first iteration and they soaked up the vodka, then turned slimy and disgusting. Yuck.
- You need a lot of marshmallows to really give the vodka the best marshmallow flavor. There are almost as many marshmallows as you use vodka in this.
The end result is a sweet, marshmallow-forward alcohol that sings when paired with chocolate. It’s sweet enough to be sipped, too, if that’s your thing.
Please note that purchasing marshmallow vodka is something you can do… but I really love to infuse small batches of liquor like this because we tend to make a few drinks total from specialty bottles, then they collect dust on our shelves.

- Mason jar
- Measuring cups
- Kitchen torch, optional
- Shot glasses or martini glass, for serving
Let’s talk ingredients!
In addition to the tools above, you’re going to need some ingredients to make this recipe, too! Chances are, you might already have some of them in your fridge or pantry. Scroll down to the recipe card for the full measurements and instructions.
Here is what you need to grab at the grocery and liquor stores:
- Mini marshmallows — mini marshmallows are key to success in making the infused vodka. They have less surface area, which means they dissolve into the vodka more quickly. If you torch these before adding them to the mason jar to infuse in the vodka, you’ll make Toasted Marshmallow Vodka. You cannot substitute the same amount of marshmallow fluff with marshmallows for this to work out, so please do not try that.
- Plain vodka — since we’re making flavored vodka, you don’t want any other flavors in it. Use a drinkable brand that you like.
Turn it into Toasted Marshmallow Vodka
Use a kitchen torch to toast the marshmallows and give them some beautiful burnt bits before adding them to the mason jar. Let them cool off slightly before adding the vodka. When the vodka is infused, you might have to strain out the burnt bits because they will not dissolve like the rest of the marshmallows, and the vodka will be more brown-colored.

How to make Marshmallow Vodka
Please note that this step in the process will take 1-2 days, so you need to allot yourself time for it to infuse.
Measure marshmallows into a mason jar. This needs to be large enough to fit the marshmallows and the vodka.
Pour vodka directly on top of the marshmallows.
Give it a good shake.
Store the jar in a cold, dark place for 1-2 days, or until the marshmallows have completely dissolved into the vodka.
PLEASE NOTE:
If there is some clouding or silt on the bottom of the jar, this is OK! Simply shake it up before it’s time to make a drink to get all that marshmallow goodness mixed back into the alcohol. No straining through a cheesecloth necessary!

Erin’s Easy Entertaining Tips
I love entertaining at happy hour or cocktail party. This marshmallow vodka recipe would be a fun flavor to serve at a summery gathering. (It might make a great nightcap for a outdoor dinner party or backyard barbecue.)
If I were going to mix up this cocktail for a crowd, here are some things I would do:
- Make a double or triple batch of the recipe. This way, you’ve got enough. (After all, this recipe was written for a smaller size of marshmallow vodka.)
- Create a drink station. Print out the recipe for s’mores martinis (or write it out) and frame it so guests can see the steps and mix their own.
- Prepare drink garnishes early.

Quick tips and tricks to the best marshmallow vodka:
- Give the vodka time to infuse. You’ll know it is ready to use when you can’t see any marshmallows in it… they will dissolve completely.
- Use the right size marshmallows. Large marshmallows will not dissolve completely, and you’ll be left with the slimy remains… and that’s gross.
- Store at room temperature in a cool, dark place. This should last a few months, though since this makes a smaller batch, you might go through it more quickly.
Ways to use this infused vodka recipe:
Mix it into a s’mores-inspired drink recipe, like a S’mores Martini or a S’mores White Russian. The marshmallow vodka pairs beautifully with melty chocolate (or chocolate syrup) and graham crackers.
Swap out in a variety of cocktails. I think you could replace regular or vanilla vodka with marshmallow vodka in a chocolate martini (or a white chocolate martini.) It’s the perfect addition!
Enjoy a shot of marshmallow vodka.
Add a splash to your favorite hot cocoa or hot chocolate recipe in the winter months.

If you love smores, you definitely need to try making Indoor S’mores in the oven or baking up Mint Smores Bars.
