Peach Simple Syrup

I will continue banging the drum of you can make ALL kinds of flavors of simple syrup! I particularly love this peach syrup recipe because it sings of fresh peach flavor and is extra sweet for the summertime months.

This peach simple syrup recipe is excellent to add to cold drinks because you don’t have to worry about the sugar dissolving into the already chilled drink. (Lookin’ at you, lemonade.)

Flavored syrups are so great for drinks, but I don’t always love the ingredients used in the ones I can find in store… so making my own has become a thing that I do. It takes a little time, but it’s worth the effort.

After all, all you need are simple ingredients, and the end results are the best.

    Why I love this recipe:

Peaches are my favorite stone fruit and one of the few things I look forward to about the summer months. (I live in Texas, friend, and it gets H-O-T here, so the little things make it worthwhile for me.)

When the Texas peaches start showing up on roadsides in my city, my entire family gets really excited, and we make all kinds of peach things.

Peach simple syrup is a newer-to-us thing, but it is a classic that should be in all of our rotations because it adds that beautiful sweetness that we can get from peaches to just about anything you mix it into.

And unlike the store-bought syrups with peach flavoring, this is all natural, thanks to the fresh peach slices we use to infuse the recipe.

Here are some things to adore about this homemade peach syrup:

    • It’s incredibly easy to make and only requires three ingredients.
    • Use it in mocktails and cocktails. Drizzle it on pancakes or waffles. Serve it alongside buttery biscuits for a sweet dipper.
    • It can be made in advance and kept in the fridge for a little bit, so you can enjoy it whenever it sounds like a good idea! (Spoiler alert: it’s always a good idea.) You can even freeze simple syrup, too, so you can enjoy it after the summer is over.

    Here’s what you’ll need:

    • Peaches — personally, I find that this recipe is better if you use fresh, sweet peaches that are ripe. Frozen peaches aren’t as vibrant in flavor, even though they will work in a pinch.
    • Granulated sugar — also known as white sugar, this is going to give sweetness to our simple syrup. I do not recommend substituting it because this allows for the syrup to turn a beautiful ruby red. The color would be murkier with a dark brown sugar.
    • Water — regular water from the tap is totally fine!

How to make Peach Simple Syrup

Combine the granulated sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Swirl them together or stir with a wooden spoon.

Place the saucepan on the stovetop, and heat the ingredients over high heat.

You want to heat the simple syrup just until the sugar dissolves in the water — and this will be before it comes to a boil, so keep an eye on it. This should only take 5 minutes tops.

When the sugar has completely dissolved into the water, remove the saucepan from the heat.

Add the sliced peaches. You can leave the skins on… they’ll provide extra color to the syrup!

Let the ingredients infuse for about 45-55 minutes. Give it a taste at the 20-minute mark to see how it tastes.

When the simple syrup has finished infusing and has come to room temperature, strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove the peaches.

Pour into its storage container. Refrigerate.

    how to store:

Once the syrup has been strained, transfer it to a mason jar, an airtight container or a fun glass jar, like these glass jars.* (affiliate link)

Keep it in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.

You can also freeze simple syrup. If you want to make a big batch of this during the summer months when gorgeous, ripe peaches are abundant, follow this tutorial to freeze some for the rest of the year.

    Erin’s Easy Entertaining Tips

If you’re planning on hosting friends or having a happy hour, I highly suggest making some homemade simple syrup to accompany your drinks!

This is also great for an at-home brunch with friends (use it in mimosas or bellinis for a sweet splash!) or for cocktail hour at a dinner party.

Here are a few tips and tricks to make it as easy as possible:

    • Make a batch of peach simple syrup 1-2 days in advance. Let it hang out in the fridge.
    • Double or triple the recipe. This will depend on the number of guests, you might need to double or triple the recipe. I always err on the side of too much since this recipe keeps well in the fridge.
    • Before friends arrive, get out the ingredients for your drinks. Decide whether you’ll mix the drinks yourself or let your friends play bartender! Either way is fun.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Does simple syrup need to boil?

No. You want the sugar to dissolve into the water, and that should happen before the mixture comes to a boil.

How long does peach simple syrup last?

It should last for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. I do not recommend storing the simple syrup at room temperature because it will not last this long.

Can I use frozen peach slices in this recipe?

While these will work in a pinch, frozen peaches are not as sweet or juicy as fresh. If you can use fresh peaches, I definitely recommend that. If not, the frozen will do, though you might need to infuse the syrup for longer.

Quick tips and tricks to making mint simple syrup

    • Give it time to infuse! This will provide the excellent peach flavor, as well as the gorgeous orange-pink color.
    • How to store: Store in a jar or an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.

    Other variations on simple syrup:

Your simple syrup ratio will remain the same at 1 part water to 1 part sugar. In fact, you’ll make simple syrup in the saucepan and then add in these additional flavors to infuse.

Here are some of our favorites:

Keep in mind that when you infuse simple syrup with flavors, the stronger the flavors will be the longer you steep them.

Also — everyone’s tastebuds are different!

If you’re concerned that your infused simple syrup might become too strong (or not be strong enough), do a taste test after 15-20 minutes. This will give you an idea of how the flavors are coming together. You can let them continue to do their thing or remove the infusion ingredient because you’re done!
