Springtime is here, and Easter is around the corner.

If your family is anything like mine, you wake up in the morning to discover what the Easter bunny has brought… then you spend a lot of time in the kitchen to make the meal. In fact, we may or may not graze throughout the day before dinner is served. After all, we always need some starters to keep bellies happy.

Not only do holiday appetizers keep guests happy as they wait for the main dishes to be ready, but they can set the tone for the meal and the day. They can bring your people together before you all sit down at the dinner table.

I’m including my favorite easy appetizers for Easter below. The list of 20+ recipes includes more traditional fare, as well as some creative apps to make and serve. Which sounds best to you?

    Where to serve Easter appetizers

Is there a bad place for these? Nope.

Here are a few locations you might want to share them…

    • At-home gatherings — whether you’re hosting a formal Easter dinner or a casual brunch, appetizers can (and should!) be served as guests arrive at your home.
    • Easter picnics — outdoor celebrations are lovely if the weather is nice. Finger foods and small bites are ideal for outdoor celebrations because they are easy to eat.
    • Church or community celebrations — if you’re attending one of these, apps that are potluck-friendly are easy wins. Keep in mind that some are easier than others to transport and share.

    Some tools you might need…

These tools, obviously, depend on what you’re making and if you’re bringing your apps on the road or if you’re hosting friends and family in your own home.

Here are some items you might need around:

    • Serving platters and wooden boards — these beautiful kitchen items help elevate apps and make them feel special.
    • Mini tongs and toothpicks — these are useful for serving bite-sized snacks. Who wants to use their fingers while nibbling on apps? Nobody.
    • Baking sheets and muffin tins — these come in clutch for anything that has been baked. They’re also lovely for miniature portioned appetizers that fit in a well of a tin.
    • Food processor or blender — these come in handy for dips, spreads and fillings that you want to be extra smooth.
    • Deviled egg carrier — this is a must-have tool if you’re bringing deviled eggs on the road. It also can double as a serving dish.
    • Deviled egg serving dish — this is important if you’re staying home so that the eggs don’t slide all over your platter. Trust me. It’s happened to us.

Here are some perfect appetizers that are lovely for sharing…

Tips for a Stress-Free Appetizer Spread

Less stress celebrations are what we are all about here at The Speckled Palate.

What are some ways to make this easier?

    • Choose a make-ahead recipe. If your appetizer can be made and/or prepped or even partially assembled beforehand, it might be a great choice.
    • Balance those flavors. Use a mix of light and fresh dishes. Include a few indulgent ones, too.
    • Make ’em pretty. (But only if you want!) Use pastels or floral-themed serving ware if you’ve got it for a springy touch.
    • Consider dietary needs. If you’re feeding people who eat a different diet than you, consider what you have for them. Offer some vegetarian, gluten-free or dairy-free options.

The whole point of hosting an Easter celebration is to celebrate… and bring your people together. So remember that this should be fun, the appetizers should be relatively easy to eat, and they should be enjoyable for the young and the old.
