How is it already November, friend? It feels like we just started this Moscow Mule of the Month journey with the classic mule back in January. (Though, hey, 2020, this year’s time has been weird.)
For this month, I wanted to take the classic mule and turn it into an easy pitcher drink for easy entertaining.
This is a super simple, super delicious recipe, and you can use it as a springboard to make other mules into a pitcher, as well.

- A Mini Stainless Steel Angled Measuring Cup (or a jigger to measure out your ingredients.)
- Copper mugs
- Citrus juicer or citrus reamer
- Pitcher
In addition to these tools, you’ll need a few ingredients, too:
- Vodka
- Lime juice—please, please, please squeeze your own or grab a bottle of freshly squeezed stuff from the refrigerator aisle of your grocery
- Ginger beer
- Fresh limes, sliced into rounds or wedges
How to make a Moscow Mule Pitcher
Add lime rounds to the pitcher. This adds for a nice garnish and display!
Measure out the ingredients, then pour them into your pitcher. This means measuring out the ginger beer and vodka. Squeeze in the lime juice, too. (If you’re using a citrus reamer, use a fine mesh strainer to catch potential seeds and pulp that are pushed out of the lime.)
Stir, and then pour over ice in copper mugs. Garnish with a lime wedge, and enjoy!
A note on making this pitcher drink recipe early: Since the drink calls for ginger beer, if you mix this too early, the ginger beer will go flat. If you want to make the pitcher early, squeeze the lime juice and measure in the vodka with the lime rounds, then add the ginger beerright before serving so that it’s nice and bubbly! Give it a good stir to make sure everything’s incorporated before pouring over ice.
Erin’s Easy Entertaining Tips
Moscow Mules are the perfect party drink because they only require three ingredients, and those ingredients are pretty easy to prep in bulk.
And a Moscow Mule pitcher is even better than making a mule bar because, well, all you’ve gotta do is get the ingredients together, throw them together and let guests pour themselves their drinks!
Here are a few things to do to make life easier on you:
- One to two hours before the party, squeeze the limes and get that lime juice ready. I don’t recommend using jarred lime juice, as it’s not nearly as fresh-tasting. Keep in mind that if you squeeze the limes earlier that the juice will become more potent.
- Quarter your limes in advance, too, for the garnish. Keep ‘em in a food storage container in the fridge for up to a few days before your gathering.
- Mix the pitcher right before guests arrive because the ginger beer will go flat if you mix this in advance.
- If you want to prep the pitcher drink in advance, squeeze the limes and measure the vodka. Mix them together in the pitcher with lime rounds, and keep cool in the fridge. Add the ginger beer right before serving the drinks, and make sure to give it a good stir!
Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t drink. Can I make this pitcher without the alcohol?
YES! I was delighted to realize that previous twists on the Moscow Mule are delicious booze-free, and this one is the same.
Granted, it’s just ginger beer and lime juice, but if that makes you happy, it makes me happy, too!
Simply leave out the vodka, mix up the other ingredients, then you’re good to go.
What kind of ginger beer do you recommend for a Moscow Mule Pitcher?
We love, love, love Fever Tree’s ginger beer because it has some major heat to it.
If you’re not into a ginger beer that has more spice, the Sprouts Farmers Market brand is delicious, too.
What is the best vodka for a Moscow Mule?
My advice is to use your favorite vodka to make these mules. I do not recommend using the cheapest vodka that you can find, as that doesn’t taste nearly as good as a drinking vodka.
Our favorite vodka brand is Tito’s * (affiliate link). If you can’t find that, Smirnoff, Pinnacle and Grey Goose are all acceptable.
Quick tips for making a Moscow Mule Pitcher
- Not a fan of vodka? Use gin instead and transform it into a Gin Gin Mule! You can also use bourbon, and it transforms into a Kentucky Mule! I have information in both those posts about the ingredients to make, as well as how to turn them into a pitcher.
- Slice your lime rounds in advance to put into the pitcher. Quarter 1-2 limes, too, for the garnishes.
- Want to make a different style of Moscow Mule? Try out a Cranberry Mule, a Gingerbread Mule or a Peach Moscow Mule.
