Confession: I was not a ranch kid growing up.

Double confession: I’m also not a ranch adult.

However, I do love a ranch-flavored moment… and these pretzels absolutely scratch that itch.

I’ll be upfront: this recipe uses a packet of ranch seasoning mix, which is not my usual approach to developing recipes. I actually tried making a homemade blend first — and didn’t love the texture it added to the pretzels.

The packet just works better here, and I’m not going to fight it. You shouldn’t, either.

    Why I love this recipe:

There is something wonderful in the simplicity of a snack like this. This ranch pretzel recipe is crunchy and flavorful… and they have just enough ranch without being overwhelming or leaving residue all over your hands. (Which, eww.)

In fact, this is the kind of easy snack recipe many people love. My kids walk through the kitchen, grab a handful and keep moving. That’s the highest endorsement a snack can get.

A few more things to love include:

    • They’re fast. All you need are 30 minutes to bake and 20-45 minutes to cool. That’s it.
    • They keep. Store them in a sealed bag with the air pushed out, and they’ll last more than a week. assuming that you or your family does not gobble them up sooner.
    • Nostalgic flavor. There’s something about that seasoning packet that just hits right.

Whether you’re making these for an afternoon snack, a road trip or something to set out at a gathering, this is an easy win that tastes like it required way more effort than it actually did.

    Let’s talk ingredients!

In addition to the tools above, you’re going to need some ingredients to make this recipe, too! Chances are, you might already have some of them in your fridge or pantry. Scroll down to the recipe card for the full measurements and instructions.

Here is what you need to get at the store to make this recipe:

    • Pretzel twists — use a bag of your favorite crunchy pretzels! I chose the twists, but different shapes should work similarly.
    • Unsalted butter — I like to use unsalted butter here to ensure the pretzels don’t get too salty. After all, the ranch dressing and the pretzels both have salt added.
    • Ranch dressing packet — initially, I tried to make this recipe with a homemade ranch dressing blend (which involves a combination of garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, dill weed, and more), and I did not love it. I purchased a packet of ranch dressing at the store and used it for these pretzels, and it made this recipe so much easier. I know that we normally don’t use store-bought packets on my website, but for this recipe specifically, I think this is easier. Since this is supposed to be an easy snack, I really encourage you just to purchase the packet.

    How to make Ranch Pretzels

Prepare. Pour pretzels into a very large bowl. Preheat the oven. Line a rimmed sheet pan (or cookie sheet) with parchment or a baking mat, and set aside.

Make the sauce. Melt the butter in a liquid measuring cup or a medium bowl. Measure in the ranch dressing mix, and stir to combine.

Mix. Pour the sauce mixture over the pretzels. Use a rubber spatula to gently toss everything together until coated.

Bake. Bake the pretzels for 30 minutes total… but you will need to open the oven and gently stir with a heat-safe spoon or spatula every 10 minutes to ensure all parts of the pretzels bake and do not burn. Keep an eye on them because they can and will burn!

Cool. When the pretzels have baked for the allotted time and no longer appear wet, remove from the oven, and let cool completely. This will take 20-45 minutes, just depending.

Serve and enjoy this delicious snack anytime!

    how to store:

Once the pretzels have cooled, transfer them to a gallon-sized plastic bag. Push any extra air out of the bag and seal tightly. They will keep for more than a week if stored properly. You can also do this in an airtight container.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different flavor of seasoning mix?

Sure, but it needs to be about the same size as the seasoning mix listed in the recipe card below.

Can I use a homemade ranch seasoning instead of a packet?

That depends. I tried to use a homemade ranch seasoning instead of a packet and did not like the end result as much because it was a little bit too grainy. If you want to take this adventure into your hands and do that, be my guest but I do not know if the results will be as good as the ones from the packet.

What kind of pretzels work best for this?

Any bagged crunchy pretzels. I used the pretzel twists but I bet the rods or the squares would also work just fine here.

Do I have to stir them while they bake?

You do and that is part of the instructions. It’s kind of a pain but a necessary evil. If you don’t stir the pretzels every so often as they bake, you run the risk of them burning.

Why did my pretzels taste bitter?

If they’re bitter I bet you overbaked them.

    Can I double the batch?

You sure can, but you will need two large rimmed baking sheets to make it happen because you will not be able to fit two batches of this onto one sheet pan. It’s important not to overcrowd the pan, and one bag is pushing the limits of what a regular-sized baking sheet can do.

Do these need to be refrigerated?

No these do not need to be refrigerated. As long as they are completely cooled before you store them, you can store them in a cool dry place in your kitchen or pantry.

Quick tips and tricks to make this ranch pretzels recipe:

Don’t rush them… or turn up the heat to make them cook faster! We don’t want to burn the pretzels, so give them the time they need to do their thing and be sure to give them a stir every 10 minutes.

Make them early: Bake them on a day when you have an hour to spare. After all, you’ll need to be close to the oven to give the baking pretzels a stir. Follow the instructions for storing so they’ll keep until you are ready to use them.

    When to share…

    • GAME DAY: Watch them disappear before halftime.
    • HOLIDAY GATHERINGS: Make a batch ahead of time and have a snack ready to go the moment guests arrive.
    • AFTER SCHOOL SNACKING: Kids will grab handfuls straight from the bag.
    • PARTIES: Low effort, high reward. Make this early, set it out at your next party and focus on everything else.
    • TRAVEL SNACKS: Sealed in a bag, these travel well and beat gas station snacks.
    • EDIBLE GIFTS: Package them up in a pretty cellophane bag or tin for a simple, crowd-pleasing treat.
