The Siciliano (Sweet Vermouth Cocktail)

Light and sweet, the Siciliano sweet vermouth cocktail is a perfect cocktail-hour aperitif. All you need are four ingredients: sweet vermouth, cold brew coffee, simple syrup and club soda. Quick and easy to make, this coffee cocktail is sure to be a hit!

    The Siciliano is light and sweet (without being cloyingly saccharine like some cocktails). There’s a cherry tartness to the cocktail, and it doesn’t have a coffee or alcohol taste.

    Which means this drink could maaaaaaaaaybe get you into some trouble if you had a few too many at happy hour.

    But maaaaaaaaaybe, just maybe, that could be a little fun?

    Either way, this drink is delightful for sipping.

    Let’s talk ingredients!

    In addition to the tools above, you’re going to need some ingredients to make this recipe, too! Chances are, you might already have some of them in your fridge or pantry. Scroll down to the recipe card for the full measurements and instructions.

    Here are the ingredients you need to pick up at the grocery store or liquor store:

    • Sweet vermouth — also known as red or Italian vermouth, this is an apertif wine and an integral ingredient in this recipe (and a lot of classic cocktails.) It makes for the perfect sweet, full-bodied base. This is not the same thing as dry vermouth, which is lighter and crisper.
    • Cold brew coffee — you can make your own or purchase a bottle from the store or your favorite coffee shop.
    • Simple syrup — this adds a little bonus liquid sweetness to our drink. I like to make my own (and keep it in the fridge), but you can also purchase a bottle of pre-made sugar syrup at the store.
    • Club soda — this is added at the end and adds some lovely effervescence to our cocktail.

    How to make a Siciliano cocktail

    Chill a martini glass in the fridge or freezer.

    Measure the sweet vermouth, cold brew, simple syrup and club soda into the glass.

    Give them a stir to combine, then enjoy!

    We chose not to garnish ours, but you could easily add an orange wheel or a citrus wedge for garnish, if desired.

    • 1 ½ oz. cold brew coffee
    • 1 oz. simple syrup

    Instructions
     

    • Pour the vermouth, coffee, simple syrup and club soda into a martini glass.
