I’ve found that people fall on one side of the fence or the other whenever it comes to funfetti-flavored anything: They either love it, or they loathe it.
It should come as no surprise that I’m a big fan of funfetti.
My love of funfetti goes back to my college days. For whatever reason, my friends and I were obsessed. Funfetti cake? Done. Funfetti cupcakes? Oh yeah. Funfetti cookies, made from the boxed mix using DIET SPRITE? Mmmhmm.
We ate every rendition we could find. We loved it all. And for good reason — it’s freaking delicious!
And even though I’ve been out of college for eight years — admitting that makes me feel super old! — I’m still a huge funfetti fan. How could I not be?
When I was planning The Speckled Palate’s Fifth Birthday Celebration, I thought it might be fun to make something using funfetti.
Originally, I wanted to bake The Speckled Palate a birthday cake… then realized that I’ve never shared a cake recipe on this blog before (this is the closest that I got)… and then wondered if it would be more fitting to make a birthday cocktail instead.
Because while The Speckled Palate is not quite the legal (human) drinking age, it’s pretty boozy. And y’all seem to enjoy the cocktail recipes as much as I do.
So I continued brainstorming.
I wondered if I could make a Funfetti Martini… or a Funfettini. Because combined words like this are SO MUCH FUN! And usually yield delicious results.
We tried several iterations and recipes that featured various liquors and measurements during these last few weeks. And this one? It was the last we tried, and it’s darn good.
This cocktail is so simple to shake up once you have the right ingredients.
All you need is vodka, hazelnut liquor, creme de cocoa, fresh lemon juice and club soda.
Oh, and rainbow nonpareils. Because they add the funfetti to this birthday cake martini and make the perfect garnish for the rim of your glass. Just be aware that the colors WILL bleed into your drink if you’re not careful when pouring and accidentally get them wet.
Funfettini Essentials
- A cocktail shaker (like the Cresimo 24 oz. Cocktail Shaker & Jigger, Kate Spade New York Gold-Dot Cocktail Shaker or Cambridge Silversmith’s Copper-Etched 24. oz. Stainless Steel Cocktail Shaker.)
- Rainbow nonpariels.
Get the look!
Here’s how I made ’em:

i would make the whitest and most russian white russian ever.
Erin says
Confession: I’ve never even TRIED a White Russian. Clearly, I need to get my act together and give it a go!
Carlee says
Is it bad that the first thing I’d put in them would be a cute dessert?! Followed by something fruity and refreshing of course.
Erin says
NO WAY! I’ve totally used them as a dessert container, too. 🙂 As well as a glass for a fruity, refreshing drink.
Kacey @ The Cookie Writer says
Whiskey or Amaretto Sours! Or any girly drink now that I think of it… Lol. My sister is big on the birthday cake desserts/drinks so she is so getting this!
Erin says
YUM! Amaretto Sours were my absolutely favorite in college. I haven’t drank one in ages. I should probably give a homemade rendition of the cocktail a go, huh?
I hope your sister enjoys her Funfettini birthday drink!
Des @ Life's Ambrosia says
We love funfetti! These cocktails are all kinds of genius! My husband is a huge old fashioned fan so I’m guessing thats what these glasses would hold first 🙂
Erin says
Thank you, Dee! I’m glad y’all love funfetti, as well. And since these are old fashioned glasses, a classic old fashioned would be perfect for ’em!
Melissa says
An old-fashioned, of course! But mine will be made with a splash of maple syrup instead of sugar or simple syrup. Because maple syrup.
Erin says
Of course! And I love the sound of maple syrup in an old fashioned. I’ve never done this, and I’m making note of it because holy cow, that sounds delightful!
Meegan says
I would make a Black Russian! I love White Russians but like to avoid the cream as much as I can. 🙂
Erin says
What is a Black Russian, Meegan? I’ve never heard of it, and since I try to avoid cream/dairy (and spectacularly fail most days), I could get behind this drink!
Julie | Bunsen Burner Bakery says
My husband would kill me if I brought home any more glassware, so I’m not entering to win — but just wanted to wish you a very happy blogiversary!
Erin says
My husband may or may not roll his eyes whenever I bring home more glassware. I meaaaaaan… it’s part of the job, right? And thank you so much for the well wishes!

YUM! All three of those drinks sound divine, Kim.
Renee - Kudos Kitchen says
Thank you for the opportunity to win those glasses. They’re absolutely spectacular!!!
I also love this funfetti martini. What’s not to love about funfetti? As far as I’m concerned, the more colorful, the better. I’ll take two, please 🙂
Erin says
You’re welcome, Renee! These glasses are the most asked-about thing on my blog, and I figured it would be fitting to give one of my favorite things away to a reader for TSP’s birthday.
Agreed on the more colorful, the better. You can’t beat funfetti. And I’ll send two of these Funfettinis right over!
Sharon @ What The Fork Food Blog says

Even though it’s not the traditional copper…I’d make Moscow Mules….so refreshing in the summertime!
Erin says
I love a Moscow Mule year round because they’re so refreshing. A different and oh-so-delicious choice for this glass.
Heather @ Sugar Dish Me says
Okay well FIRST OF ALL 5 years is awesome. YAAAAAAAAY! And second — of course I’d make these Birthday Cake martinis because duh. Tuesday weas my birthday and I like sprinkles. Third though — no cake!? We need to solve this ASAP.
Erin says
Thank you, Heather! I cannot believe it’s been FIVE YEARS. That’s a long time. 😉
You should totally make yourself these martinis as a birthday weekend drink. Because sprinkles make everything better. And I know. I need to solve the cake issue. It’s on my list. Maybe you can provide one, and I’ll make drinks so we can properly celebrate both birthdays?
Ashley Bree Perez says
I would make some black iced tea (:
