I fell in love with margaritas at first sip… but then had some bad experiences, so I swore off margaritas.
When we moved to Texas, I decided to try my luck with margaritas again.
And real talk: I’d surpass a beer in favor of this Cantaloupe Margarita with Mint.
Why I love this recipe:
Summertime is just around the corner, and cantaloupe and mint are going to be abundant so soon! Just think of all the margaritas you can make with the summer bounty!
This Melon Margarita is a little bit sweeter than the average margarita. It’s light and frothy and refreshing, which makes it the perfect summer cocktail.
Also, it boasts just a hint of that gorgeous, light cantaloupe flavor. Combined with the mint, this cantaloupe cocktail is out-of-this-world delicious.
An added bonus, this recipe makes THREE Melon Mint Margaritas, so you can have enough to share with friends!

Let’s talk ingredients!
In addition to the tools above, you’re going to need some ingredients to make this recipe, too! Chances are, you might already have some of them in your fridge or pantry. Scroll down to the recipe card for the full measurements and instructions.
Here are the simple ingredients that you need to get:
- Cantaloupe — ripe melon is what we need to make these margaritas a dream! Your cantaloupe should smell sweet and feel heavy. Slice it open, remove the seeds and dice it before adding it to the blender.
- Orange liqueur — Cointreau is my go-to for margaritas, but triple sec and Grand Marnier also work!
- Silver tequila — a 100% blue agave brand, please and thank you.
- Freshly squeezed lime juice — you can purchase the squeezed kind from the refrigerated section at the grocery store. It’s with the pre-chopped fruit and is worth the splurge. However, you can purchase limes and squeeze ‘em yourself. The juice being fresh is super important, and the shelf-stable bottles of lime juice will not do.
- Agave nectar — this is our sweetener for the margaritas, and it adds a nice earthy sweetness.
- Fresh mint leaves — we use these fresh leaves as a garnish, as well as in the margaritas themselves. Make sure you wash them before adding them to the blender.
- Ice cubes — these are going to give the melon margarita a slushy texture!
- Garnishes — we’re going to need granulated sugar (also known as white sugar) to rim the glasses, as well as some lime wedges and mint sprigs to garnish your final margaritas.
You could transform this recipe into a Melon Margarita if you use honeydew melon in place of the cantaloupe.

How to make Melon Margaritas
Rim the glasses. Run a sliced lime around the rim of three glasses. Dip in granulated sugar, moving the glass until the rim is coated in sugar. You could also do this with coarse salt.
Combine the ingredients in the base of a blender. Add tequila, ripe cantaloupe chunks, orange liqueur, freshly lime juice, agave nectar, mint leaves and ice cubes.
Blend until smooth, about 2-3 minutes depending on the strength of your blender.
Pour the margaritas into the prepared glasses.
Pro tip!
I didn’t strain mine, but if you do not like the texture of juices with pulp, I recommend running this margarita through a fine mesh strainer before serving.
Garnish with a mint leave and a lime wedge. Enjoy cold!
