Tailgate Thursday | Blended Mimosas

in drink, Tailgate Thursday

As y’all should know, it is officially FOOTBALL SEASON! College football kicked off last weekend, and the NFL kicks off this evening.

And since it’s officially FOOTBALL SEASON!, I am starting up a new feature here at The Speckled Palate… Tailgate Thursday.

We’re LSU fans at this house, and y’all better believe that every weekend, we will be tailgating for the Tigers in some form or fashion. And I plan on sharing a few of our favorite tailgate foods, as well as some new tailgate food discoveries, with this feature throughout the season.

My friends and family will attest that I am a big fan of mimosas of any form. Give me a regular mimosa or a Maui one or even one with orange/pineapple juice, and I am a happy girl. And if you throw in a little amaretto while at it? I’m probably in heaven.

This past weekend, my sister and I were preparing for her team’s game when she had the brilliant idea to blend up some orange juice. This was something we loved as kids… something about the foamy OJ, and I suggested that we throw in some champagne for good measure. The experiment was a hit, and this riff on a regular mimosa was born.

Trust me when I say that you will love this if you love chilly drinks. Or mimosas. Or orange juice.

A little something different to jazz up your mimosa

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup dry champagne
  • 10 cubes ice

Instructions
  1. Pour the orange juice and half of the champagne in the blender with the ice cubes.
  2. Run the blender, breaking down the ice cubes and thoroughly mixing the liquids.
  3. When the ice cubes are in small enough pieces, pour the mixture into a glass.
  4. Pour the rest of the champagne into the glass.

So if you’re tailgating this weekend, think about starting your day off with a Blended Mimosa. You won’t be disappointed!

I love that you’re making Thursdays all about tailgating. That way, people have plenty of time to shop, prepare and cook before football over the weekend! =)

Thanks, Nilsa! I thought that might make things easier for everyone… and that way, I can somewhat recap what we had the previous week, too!

TAILGATING IS HERE!!! We are going to have lots of early morning tailgates this season since TCU won’t be playing any home games after dark – we will definitely be trying these out!
