Food Goals of 2013

It’s the new year, and I want to set some goals for myself, food-wise, here at The Speckled Palate before sharing some new recipes with y’all this year.

Script on a white background stating New Year\'s Goals for 20131. Work on incorporating more whole foods in my diet. Get serious about eating right, especially since I have big plans this year involving running and pushing myself to achieving some things I never thought possible, physically. I do a pretty good job of keeping a balanced diet… but I want to especially strive for this because it’ll help my running. (Note: This doesn’t mean I won’t indulge in my favorite treats every once in a while. Who knows? Maybe I can find some healthier sweet treats to enjoy? Either way, I’ll be blogging about it.)

2. Try 24 new recipes from the various cookbooks (and magazines) I own. Take some photos of them and make notes. And blog about what I thought.

3. Make homemade ice cream. Finally. I’m thinking something like this Red Wine Ice Cream from the New York Times. (Thanks for sharing this link, Erica!)

4. Figure out my taste when it comes to liquor. No, this is not an excuse to get drunk. This is a statement about learning what mixed drinks I like… seven years after legally being allowed to drink.

5. Be brave. Try new foods. Experiment in the kitchen. And don’t get discouraged when something goes wrong because that’s part of the fun.

Do you have any food goals for this year? What are you going to do to achieve them?
