When I think of rum, the question, “But why is all the rum gone?” immediately pops into my head.
It’s not that I’m a huge Johnny Depp fan. I don’t even have all the Pirates of the Caribbean on DVD. (In fact, I only have the first, and it’ll stay this way because the first was the best. Period.)
None of those. But I just found the quote so amusing that whenever someone mentions rum, I’m transported back to where Captain Jack Sparrow asks it, almost indignantly. These are important things to know, guys.
So when we decided to have a rum drink for this week’s cocktail, you’d better believe I was asking, “But why is all the rum gone?”… even though we still have a full bottle in our liquor cabinet. And even though we still have quite a bit left after these drinks.
And now that I’ve spoken about Pirates, I’m gonna have to go watch it and this specific scene. So excuse me…
And while I do that, you can make one of your own:
- 6 teaspoons light or golden rum (we used golden)
- 3 teaspoons Cointreau
- 3 teaspoons fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- Shake all ingredients well with ice.
- Strain into a cocktail glass.
- Garnish with a half-slice of lemon.
When we took our first sips of this cocktail, my husband declared, “It’s got a little tang to it.” That it does. It’s also got a lot of bitterness… and a lack of sweetness. However, the drink is pretty light, so maybe if there was a little more sweetness to balance it out, we would give it another go.
Two cheers! Sorry, y’all. We’d like to be sipping something else… but we like the idea of this cocktail. For us to try this again, we’d have to make some changes.
